This course is specifically designed for kids (age 7+) and adults, who are pursuing their visual art hobby.

This course is a compact course, which covers basic fundamentals. After completing this course you will be able to sketch and draw from your imagination i.e. memory, using graphite and colored pencil.



OBJECTIVE To develop creative abilities and learn the artistic skills, by exposing the participants to a variety of processes, mediums, materials, techniques, tools and technologies, which covers various subjects mentioned in the scope
  • INTRODUCTION: Holding pencil (wrist / shoulder, traditional, over hand)
  • ELEMENTS: Line, shape (square, triangle, circle, organic)
  • FORM, VALUE & TEXTURE: Form (cube, cylinder, sphere, complex shapes), value (spectrum i.e. 1-5 White / light / middle / dark / Black, source of light), value (pressure, layering, lifting graphite (eraser, putty and blade), shielding or masking, lead softness i.e. HB / 2B / 4B), texture (hatching, cross hatching,  scumbling i.e. small random sharp shapes to create spiky texture), scribbling i.e. small random circular movement, smudge)
  • SPACE: space (size, details, overlap, placement, contrast, color, horizon, perspective), perspective (1 / 2 / 3 point, horizon line, vanishing point, converging lines, cast shadow)
  • COLOR THEORY: VIBGYOR, coloring sheet
  • LIGHT AND SHADOW: Source of light, light zone, shadow zone, crack
  • MEDIUMS: Basics and beginner techniques, methods and usage of various mediums such as graphite, charcoal, pencil color or oil pastels
  • DESIGN PRINCIPLES: Direction, repetition, harmony, unity, variety, balance, proportion, dominance, contrast and composition based upon rule of third
  • PROJECT : Objects based upon shapes, 1 point perspective landscape, 2 point perspective landscape, 3 point perspective landscape.
DURATION Approximately 20 hours of classroom time.
PREREQUISITE No previous artistic skills are required.
CLASSROOM 13 to 14 sessions, where each session is for 1 to 1.5 hour. Depending upon your schedule, a participant may consume more sessions, in less number of days say 4 sessions in a week, or 4 sessions in a fortnight etc. Home assignments and self practice will tentatively consume double or triple the classroom time, which is mandatory for the success of the course.
